WHAT A SCORE !

Kilkenny hurling legend, DJ Carey produced a magical 'moment in time' in the 2002 All-Ireland final against Clare when he scored an awe-inspiring point that will live in the memory forever. We might keep this one here for a good while. It was surely the supreme point of Championship 2002. A dodging and weaving DJ, who had flicked a dropping shot from Henry Shefflin to the Clare net as early the third minute in that 2002 decider, rolled the ball onto the hurley and then eluded the chasing Ollie Baker, who tumbled to the ground in his despairing attempt to block the nine-times All-Star. Then time stood still; everyone held their breath as DJ calmly controlled the ball on the hurley before hitting over a magnificent point from the right wing. It was pure genius from the master craftsman. A banner on Hill 16 said it all: "Danger! DJ at work." It was a day when Kilkenny claimed their 27th All-Ireland title and DJ Carey underlined his status as the most outstanding hurler of the modern era.

Katy Taylor from Bray who became World Women's Lightweight Boxing Champion in New Delhi. She beat all before her convincingly including the champions of Germany, Norway, USA and Argentina. This week she walked away with the Eoropean Championship in Hungary. She is also reckoned to be the best female soccer player in Ireland.
