THIS WEEK IN CLOGH ................

RAILYARD MINORS beaten by Muckalee today (Monday) after several posrponements.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING FINAL : SHAMROCKS 2-11, THE VILLAGE 0-12, ...............MINOR FINAL : COMER 1-11, DICKSBORO 0-11.

CLONEEN Hurling Club meeting last Friday, discussed the important issue of vesting the grounds in the GAA. An Extraordinay General Meeting will be held shortly to allow members to consider the move.

THE BOTTLE BANKS are gone again. They were being well used and going well but following a complaint the council took them away.

HANDBALL ALL IRELANDS: Friday night in Crinkle near Birr, Mary Phelan and Ciara Mahon bt Galway ( Cianna ni Curraoin and Roisin ni Chongaile) while Eoghan Hennessy bt Galway (Fiontain O'Curraoin) in the 60' x 30' finals. In Clonmel on Saturday night, Claire Love and Marie Therese O'Neill lost their Ladies Junior doubles final. Eoghan and Mary are in action again shortly in their respective colleges All Ireland finals. The Clogh under 14 team of 4 take on Ballydesmond (Kerry) in the Club team All Ireland final in Clonmel. World number one Colm Brady (Cavan) was beaten in the USHA open Saturday but the title still came to Ireland with Tony Healy (Cork) winning the $25,000.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING : The County Council began work on providing a controlled crossing at COLLIERY CLOSE. Unfortunately, as they were finishing for the day on Tuesday, they knocked off the water supply.

THE FOOTPATH along the New Road is to be completed as far as Dr. Freyne's this winter.

PARISH DRAW : The Annual Parish Draw which last year was shared by the Cloneen and Railyard GAA Clubs is under way . This year's proceeds will go towards the planned renovations to the Parish Church. Draw on next Friday 31st October in the Parish Centre.

16/9/08 : Moneenroe Hall has been granted €26,000 by Kilkenny County Counciltowards providing new toilets and a games room. The award is to the Parish Finance Committee. In recent years there has been severe vandalism at the hall, especially the breaking of windows.

NEW CHILDCARE SERVICE

There was a buzz about the Parish Centre in Clogh on Monday morning when the two new childcare workers arrived to begin preparations for the pre-school service which officially begins on Monday next. The leader is Orla Phelan from Freshford and she will be assisted by Joanne Kidd from Ballickmoyler. The after schools service is to begin in November. The service comes under the auspices of the local CE Scheme whose board have worked diligently with the Childcare Committee and the Parish Finance Committee to put this valuable service in place. Parents who want to make enquiries should call to the centre between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The Childcare Group also intend running an after school service each afternoon which today (23 Oct) was given the go ahead by FAS to start in November.

SOCCER

St Pats Utd. Soccer Club are back in the Kilkenny and District League and after two bad results they got their first win on Sunday beating Cliften 2-0.

Congratulations to Gary Delaney who was a member of the Kilkenny minor panel that won the ALL Ireland Final in Croke Park against Galway.

Renovation on the chapel has started - Phase 1 gutters, downpipe etc. Phase 2 The Alter etc.

YOUTH CLUB : A new youth Moneenroe / Clogh Foroige club club is now set up and fund raising events will be popping up around the area shortly. They get together on Friday nights.

The New Old School Crescent Housing Scheme, The Islands, Moneenroe which were officially opened on Friday evening 27th June by Cllr. Tom Maher, Chairman of Kilkenny County Council.
