Colliery houses

The 2nd Phase of 6 Houses at Colliery Close with the Parochial House in the Background

The Colliery Christians Voluntary Housing Association was formed in 1992. Its objective is to work with others to respond to the housing needs of the people of the community. It has the support of Clogh Parish Finance Committee and the Diocese of Ossory who continue to make Church lands available to facilitate housing developments. Kilkenny County Council also work with and support the projects undertaken by the association.

12 houses for the elderly were built in the village of Clogh, 4 single and 8 double. It is a most attractive scheme and is named Colliery Close. Its name derived from competition organised by the local National School and Ann Marie Kelly came up with the winning name.

Old School Crescent, Moneenroe

This site, located on the Chapel Lane, Moneenroe and being developed by Colliery Housing Association, is attracting great interest.  There are 16 sites of which 12 are sold.  The clients are all young couples from the area.  A competition was organised through the school to rename the site.  Old School Cresent was the winner and this was in agreement with the purchasers of the sites.

The Islands

The school children also named the site for the Housing for the Elderly. The chosen and agreed name is "The Islands" after the late Fr. Jerry Joyce who envisioned the housing projects and worked to implement them. Currently, with the assistance of Kilkenny County Council, plans are progressing for this particular scheme.  The Safe Home Programme is an initiative that is in place and pioneered by Dr. Jerry Crowley, Mulranney Village Co., Mayo and President Mary McAleese. Emigrants are advised to apply for housing through this programme or through their respective County Councils or local Voluntary Housing Association. This scheme of 12 houses were allocated recently.
